Walter Girl B's Room of Scientific Discovery and Kitty-Cat Cuteness

The room that Brianna has taken within the boarding house is a smallish bedroom located on the second floor, tucked out of sight and generally unnoticed by all. She keeps it tidy at all times, as Brianna prefers to keep things in their proper places, but with a happy cat bounding from here to there at times, it can sometimes get a little out of sorts.
Though Brianna can often be found more down in the workshop or attending to the automatons she's been charged with taking care of, there are moments of downtime in which she can be tracked down her lonely little room.
'SUP
"Miss Brianna?" Of course he knew she was in there, he'd been lurking about to be sure he wouldn't accidentally catch Miss Paige, or even worse Miss Bunny.
There was something on his mind.

"The Spine," softly, in greeting. "Was there something you needed?" He (none of them, that is) had never come knocking on her room door before, hopefully nothing was wrong.
no subject
"Just to ask you somethin', really." Oh the jingling. A hiss of steam escaped him, glowing green gaze settling on B as he stood perhaps a little awkwardly, not all that sure what to do with himself. "If you'd like to accompany me on a little walk." He hadn't left the yard for a while, let alone gone all that far off their porch.

Whoops.
...Unfortunately, by then, it was far too late. He would not--could not--wake Brianna just to have a conversation that might not go as well as he hoped it would.
He had found a chair and set it right beside B's bed, watching her silently for a little while before tugging down the brim of his fedora to shade his photo-receptors. He tucked his long legs in close to the legs of the chair so as not to trip anyone and slipped into stasis.
It wasn't long after that he was pulled out of it by the sensation of something climbing up his pants leg. He watched the tiny kitten with curiosity, noting the markings and the pink collar around its neck and smiling faintly. At least one of him had gotten something right. With the kitten curled up in his lap, presumably enjoying the warmth of his boiler, he had gone back to sleep.
Morning found The Spine and The Stripe still there, one powered down and the other purring up a storm.
Oh there's a robut in my room
Wait, what?
Even without the collar she would have known who it was immediately, the woman's eyelashes fluttering in mild confusion at the sight before the memories of the evening before finally sunk back in again. And while it did make her loving heart drop in her chest at the relieving of those awful feelings that had been accidentally dug up, the sight of The Spine there, sitting oh so sweetly at her bedside, patiently awaiting her to wake up- Well, it did help to ease some of that pain away.
So there would be a gentle hand upon the robot's shoulder, softly shaking him, hoping to get The Spine stirring without too much trouble. And when those green optics of his would finally flicker back to life as his consciousness came back online? He'd find Brianna there, kneeling on the bed before him, dressed in only a pale yellow nightgown, hair slightly messy and tousled from sleep.
But even more noticeable than that, looking past the redness in her eyes from the previous evening's long cry, there was a gentle smile sitting there, meant only for him.
WHAT WHERE?! ...oh.
Green glow met red-rimmed green eyes and, for once without consciously thinking about it, The Spine did a very human thing. He opened his mouth and completely forgot the apology he'd prepared the night before, instead emitting a stuttering hiss of steam and staring at B slack-jawed.
It was the smile that did it, really. It was so far from what he'd expected, so heart-wrenchingly (if he'd had a heart) sweet, that he was rendered speechless for a long moment.
...Then he recalled why he was there. "Bri-a-a-anna-anna, I, uh..." He gently scooped up The Stripe and offered the kitten to her, already getting to his feet. What a time for a vocal glitch.
But he wasn't retreating. The Spine lowered himself to one knee with a hiss of hydraulics and click of gears so that he could look up at her earnestly. "I'm sorry. I was a dummins and let my voice box run off without the rest of me."
Geez Spine what if I'd been naked gosh
I'll tell you what if. It would've been awkward, that's what if.

But finally he'd gotten up the nerve, and once he'd seen the other Walter Girls head out of the shared room, there was a soft knocking at the door.]

The corner of black lips quirked into something of a smile as she opened the notebook, pencil in hand, and begain sketching some sort of whimsical version of the flowers.
It wasn't long untill she heard a few curious quacks, glancing up only for a moment to spot the ducks before returning to her little project of sorts. It wasn't just the flowers that would be making it onto paper.

Oh no, not on mama Rabbit's watch.
So with a bit of a mechanical grumble under his not!breath, the automaton was clanking and clattering around the Walter home, calling out obnoxiously loud for his feathered children, making a show of bursting into everyone's room unannounced just to peek under their beds and rummage through their closets.
Of course by the time he finished looking around the workshop, the 'bot had started to become just the slightest bit concerned. Little TomatoSoup was a bit more fragile than his brothers, so runty and small, what would happen to the little guy if he lost his siblings and couldn't make his way back alone?
But a quick peek outside--the back yard, his final destination for duckling hide-n-seek--was quick to relieve those growing concerns.
Some noisy steps closer to the woman, just curiously counting the number of ducklings that had settled around her, Rabbit making certain that none were missing.

ANYTIME
When he came to get her there was a canvas bag hanging by a strap over his shoulder. There were a few things he wanted to take with them, after all, and it was easier to deal with than a basket; even if he'd had to do some digging to actually find one to use. There was only the slightest hesitation before he knocked on the door lightly.
"Brianna?"
I'LL ANYTIME YOU
After the rather, uh, questionable ending to her last evening out with one of The Spines, Brianna had prepared as best as she could with the short amount of time she'd been given. Another darling sundress, though this time the usual accompanying flower was mysteriously absent, replaced with a cute, girlish bow instead. Then simply a swipe of dark eyeshadow, a comfortable pair of flats, and a dab of perfume to her neck.
"I'm ready!" And looking particularly excited over just what the man had in store for her this evening.
OH BABY

Considering how protective the automaton had become of his feathery children, Rabbit couldn't be too far off within the house, likely going to return any moment, but that didn't quiet down any of those tiny duckling cries.
no subject
"Aww sweeties..." She cooed, coming out towards the stairs, though stopping a short distance back to get down on her knees so she wouldn't scare the baby ducklings, reaching out with a pale hand to stroke downy backs and heads.
"How did you get down here?" If they seemed calm enough with her presence? They'd be gathered up, deposited in the front of Paige's skirt as she pulled the edge out so it made a sort of nest. And no she would deny that while she was leaning down to study them that she was quacking back at them.

MUDSLINGING [for real this time]
There was no question of whether he would follow her. She had him by the heart, after all.
"I, uh, suppose we'll be seein' you later, Miss Paige." Was that lopsided grin still in place as he gave her a polite nod in farewell? You bet it was.
It hadn't budged an inch when he and Brianna stepped out of the sunshine and into the house, either. It was hard not to smile when she was around, mud or no mud.
i dunno i liked your other tag a lot
A tiny hand was reaching up instinctively to smooth out a newly created crease in the robot's fancy vest, a rather silly gesture considering that said vest was currently caked in mud, but it seemed automatic at this point, Brianna's attention far more focused upwards to that handsomely crafted face than on what her hands were doing. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself." An apology seemed needed considering just how much the Walter Girl knew her boyfriend cared for his perfectly pristine clothing. Nothing a good washing couldn't fix, but sometimes the man was exceptionally sensitive.
"I have to clean my dress now anyway, so I might as well take care of your clothing as well."
it was a work of art wasn't it

Can you see what I see? [Boarding House]
He wasn't thinking about it. Nope. Definitely not. Instead, The Spine was carefully perched on the edge of Brianna's bed and teasing The Stripe with a bit of string he'd tucked into his pocket for that exact purpose. As much as he might grumble about cat hair (particularly back home, where said cat hair was both extremely long and rather thick), the kitten was growing on him. That was definitely a smile on his face when The Stripe pounced on the twitching end of the string.
no subject
"Can you tell how much he's growing? I don't think I'd be able to fit him your pocket anymore." As darling as that had been, it was nice to know he couldn't disappear or run off quite as easily as he had been capable of before.

She was there. His system thrummed and a pleasant spark darted down his wires, and yet a part of his programming was causing his core to feel as though it were plummeting. It had been months since he'd last seen her; he'd fallen through a crack in this world and landed back in his own, where time had continued to march onward.
However awkward that march might have been.
"Hey, Miss B--Brianna, are you busy?"
He winced at the mistake. He'd had to train himself to call her Brianna, here, and then train himself back out of it back home. The first time he'd called her by her first name there, she'd looked at him so oddly he'd wanted the floor to swallow him up. It didn't oblige. Not until months later, when he stepped backstage and found himself in Nusquamton. It had been days before he'd worked up the nerve to find the Walters again. Another two before he'd decided he was being a big darn fool, avoiding B.
And now he was at her door, wondering if everything had changed too much to pick up again where they'd left off.

The Walter Girl was currently reclined on her bed, knees drawn up as she rested against her pillows, a small book propped up against her skinny legs. She'd been trying to relax, to take a quiet morning to herself to read and enjoy the silence as infrequently as these moments of calm came around. But, as had been the case for the last few weeks, she found herself unable to focus, her usual perkiness somewhat dimmed.
Since their arrival to the boarding house, she'd felt a tinge of uneasiness she'd been unable to fully shake away.
Thankfully though, there was a new distraction to take her attention away from her tumbling thoughts, the young woman's chin tilting upwards out of her book immediately at the knock to her door. At first, the flash of silver wasn't very surprising, one of The Spines she normally saw, just checking in on her like usual. But then there was that brief memory lapse, the 'Miss' that she hadn't heard in quite some time...
Oh. Brianna's blue eyes widened slightly as that book was abruptly dropped beside the cat, the woman shifting to the side of the bed, smoothing out her uniform's poofy skirt. She'd heard talk, soft whispers of his return, but when she hadn't been approached, she'd only assumed it was yet another one of them.
Really, Brianna loves them all dearly, but even her seemingly endless love had it's limits.
"The Spine, is that--" A soft twist of her blue mouth, gaze dropping a little sheepishly. She'd like to be certain it was him before making any assumptions. "No, of course not. Please come in."

Mostly due to a few lingering memories of that early morning and the events of it, lips pressed into a firm line. Waiting.

Word travels among the Walters and their various employees, even in a place as big and crowded as the boarding house, so it was no surprise that Brianna had heard about what had happened the other night with The Spine. Especially since she'd caught sight of Rabbit outside not long after, muttering curses at a ripped up mattress while she'd set it aflame. It was hard to not get suspicious after seeing that.
So, perhaps, there was just a little more sweetness in her smile than normal, a reassuring softness to help soothe the automaton's troubles and to help him get through the rest of the evening. A silent reminder that he always had her support, even if she knew better than to pry.
"Spine!" A gentle brush of her fingers against his arm in greeting, chin tilting upwards to share her smile with him. "Would you like to come in?"

take 2
It's a new experience for The Spine. The last time he'd been in Nusquamton the locals had still been mildly hostile towards the Walters. Perhaps some of them still are, and they are only distracted by the obvious (real) threat.
Who knows. He isn't about to stop and ask.
It isn't until they arrive at the boarding house that the bad news makes itself known. The Spine hangs back, waiting for Brianna to clear the steps before following. He twists to look back over his shoulder, giving the sky one last wary search, and something in his knee goes ping. Whatever small piece was damaged in his fall has finally given up the ghost.
He sets his mouth in a grim line and makes for the steps, his system clamoring about the stress being placed on the weakened limb, each swing of his knee accompanied by a godawful grinding noise.
... well. So much for getting out of that whole ordeal unscathed.]

Her fingers land at his elbow, barely putting any pressure into the touch.] Can you make it to my room? I have all of my tools there with my gloves. [a touch of worry flashes across her face] If not, I'm sure I can find someone to help--[Already turning to glance over her petite shoulder, eyes darting down the hallway and up the stairs to see if any of his siblings just so happen to be nearby. Funny how they couldn't be rid of them when they wanted time to themselves, but now when they were actually wanted....
Biting down on her bottom lip, the woman's eyes jolt back to The Spine. Even if she knew he'd be fine--he was fine, logically speaking--Brianna wasn't going to give him the opportunity to worsen whatever damage had already been done to his leg.]
